What is the Online Prenatal Class for Couples by Pulling Curls?
The online Prenatal Class for Couples was created by Hilary Erickson, a registered Labor and Delivery nurse. Over 20 years, she has helped thousands of moms in person and over the internet in safely delivering their baby.
Hilary has created this wonderful Prenatal course for couples, who are expecting birth at the hospital. Since over 98% of births happen in hospitals, this is likely to be a good fit for most couples.
This course is perfect for busy couples who just want to know the essentials of birthing at the hospital settings without knowing the science of birthing.
Hilary is very direct, and you will get to see her passion and knowledge about the subject throughout the class.
She herself is a mother of 3 and when you take a class, you will get to hear her personal experiences of birth and that makes her so much more relatable.
What I love the most about this online Prenatal class for couples is that it is long enough to not lose your attention span, to-the-point, thorough information and most importantly the couple discussion questions included at every chapter to initiate the conversation between the couple.
What is the Structure of The Online Prenatal Class for Couples by Pulling Curls?

Let’s look at the Course Content
When I was going through the course, I felt like she was taking me on a hospital tour while I was visualising myself going through my Labor and Delivery from start to finish. The online prenatal class for couples is slip into three sections- before labor, labor and postpartum.
Brief overview of the topics covered in each of these three sections.
1. Before Labor
In the first section, she talks about the true vs false sign of labor. You will learn what contraction feels like, how to tell if you are legitimately having a contraction, how far apart they should be in order to head to the hospital. She will guide you on what to do when you think you are in labor.
Hilary talks about when it is the right time to go to the hospital, so you are not sent home. Which is of a lot of help because this is where first-time moms are most confused about.

- 7 Practical ways to Avoid The Ring of Fire During Childbirth
2. Delivery Time
In this section, she talks about what happens when you reach the hospital. What tests your doctor orders in the labor and delivery to make sure mom and baby are safe.
What I like the most about this part is the information about what to expect when you are at the hospital. It gives you a sense of control and eases your mind. Here’s what she talks about,
- What to expect at the desk and triage room before you’re admitted
- Information about contraction monitor and fetal heart rate monitor
- Information about vaginal exam by nurse to check how much dilated you are
- What to expect if you are B strep positive
- Things you can and can’t do in the hospital once you are admitted
In this section, she talks about reasons why you might be induced and what drug they night use to induce you. Understanding why and how labor induction is done can help you prepare in case you need to go this route.
This section is dedicated to pain management using epidural and other pain medication. Hilary talks in great details about epidural procedure to prepare you in case you want to go for epidural.
Natural Pain Management
In these 13 minutes section, Hilary talks about how to manage labor pain using breathing exercises. She talks about distractions and how your spouse can help you manage the labor pain.
This section is dedicated to planned and unplanned c-sections if you end-up going this route. She will take you through the whole procedure from start to finish.
Delivering your Baby
Hilary talks about what to do when active labor starts. She teaches you how to push and talks about average push time for a first time mother. She also talks about cord clamping, vaginal tearing, what happens right after the baby comes out. She shares everything that you need to know about giving birth to your baby.
3. Postpartum Care
In this section, she talks about how to take care of yourself after the birth of your baby and what you need to be careful about. She also goes over how to care for the baby briefly. She goes over how to change a diaper, bath a baby, how to swaddle and talks about how to safely co-sleep to prevent SIDS.

What I appreciated about this online class is the questions that she answered like- will I poop during childbirth? Or Did I just pee or did my water actually break? I would have been too embarrassed to ask these kinds of questions in an in-person class.
How is your partner included in this Online Prenatal class for Couples?
Your partner should be 100% taking this course with you. Most interesting part of this course is the couple discussion questions after every chapter. These questions will promote conversation between you and your partner to help you prepare for your labor and delivery and even when the baby is here.
Discussing these topics will keep you in the same boat and define your role not only during birth but as a new parent as well.
Who is this online Prenatal Class for?
This course is created for busy couples who don’t have time for a long in-person childbirth class.
This class is ideal for
· Someone planning for a hospital birth
· First time parents
· Second, third or fourth time mother looking for a refresher course
· Busy couples looking for a flexible option for a childbirth class
This class is great for anyone who is planning to have a birth at the hospital setting.
Who this course is not for?
This online Prenatal class for couples is not for someone,
· If you have never taken an online class before or have taken the online class but never finished it, then you should stick with in-person birth class. Because it does take dedication to go over all the materials.
· If you need an educator to guide you through breathing exercise or plain management, you need to take in-person class.
This class is to-the-point class where Hilary’s aim is to deliver essential information to help you survive the childbirth process without much bluff.
When should you take this online Prenatal Class for Couples?
Beauty of the online class is you can take whenever you want during your pregnancy. Ideally, you should take this online prenatal class in early third trimester so you can retain the information when you need to use it.
Also, you can take this class, even, if you are days or weeks away from your due date, as you can finish in this class in just 2-3 hours.

PROS of the Online Prenatal Class for Couples by Pulling Curls
Online, self-paced and 24/7 accessibility
Flexibility is a selling feature of the online course. You can take this course anytime, at your pace, and in the comfort of your own home.
This course has 12 videos that vary in length from 2 minutes to 20 minutes for a total of 2.5 to 3 hours. You can take this course in one sitting or distribute your hours over a week, it is all up to you!
What I love about this class is the length. It is not too short or too long. We distributed our hours between 2 sessions.
Combination of video and written content
Hilary is very knowledgeable, extremely straightforward in delivering the content of the course. She explains everything in a way that is easy to understand.
While you are going through the course, you don’t need to worry about taking notes as everything is available in writing as well.
At the end of each chapter, you have an opportunity to ask your question to Hilary despite this course delivered as a video. All you have to do is leave your question and wait for Hilary to answer.
I also love how other readers’ comments show up in case they ask something you were wondering, too!
Engaging enough for your partner
At the end of each chapter, there are a couple discussion questions. They are actually thought provoking and it helps initiate dialogue between couples to make sure you’re both on the same page.
This course is offered as a three tier. You choose the option depending on your budget. But I do recommend you chose the option with video content (more on it below).
CONS of the Online Prenatal Class for Couples by Pulling Curls
Nothing in this class that stands out as a cons. to me. This course is well planned out, research based, interactive and absolutely covers everything you need to know if you are planning a hospital birth.
However, if you are looking for an instructor guided hands-on learning then stick with in-person prenatal class at the hospital. If you are not committed to go through this self-paced course, do not do it.
Also, if you are hoping for a home birth, this course is not for you.
Which Version of course should you Choose?
Hilary offers three versions of this course to suit your budget.
1. Basic Version
This version will give you access to a downloadable 100-page ebook and downloadable couple’s workbook.
Don’t buy it just because this is the cheapest version. If you want your partner to be a part of your labor and delivery, it’s a big no no. Because he won’t read it. Even it is boring for you to go through it. You need visuals to grasp and retain the information.
2. The standard Online class
With this version, you’ll have access to Hilary’s online videos, ability to ask questions, couples questions within course. This is the most budget friendly version. For less than $100, you can’t go wrong with it. However, you won’t have access to a downloadable ebook or a couple’s workbook and Hilary’s Facebook group.
When we took this course, we chose this version and I can say it was worth every single penny.
3. Delux Full Course
If you want a live and interactive version of the prenatal class that is as close to instructor-led class experience, you need Deluxe full course.
For this version, Hilary goes live in a private Facebook group and walks you through the course. Enrollment for this version opens during certain periods with limited enrolment capacity per class so everyone has access to Hilary.
Having access to the Facebook group is worth your investment in this course as you will have direct access to Hilary and the chance to meet other like-minded couples to boost your motivation.
I recommend this version to couples who want instructor-led, classroom setting.
This bring us to final part of this review,
Is this Online Prenatal course Worth It?
When we took this course, we were having our second baby. Having an experience of labor and delivery with my first one, I still thought that this course was worth it. It gives you everything you need to know to give birth in the hospital.
The course is very informative, fun, interactive and most of all, it was the fastest and easiest way to gain the knowledge we needed to prepare for our next baby.
I seriously think that if you take this course, you won’t have any unanswered questions at the end of course.
